6 Things that should not be revealed on Facebook

The social networking sites have surrounded the whole globe and millions of people are sharing their interests, photos and their everyday routines on these sites. Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Orkut and several others sites have created a phenomenon that is so appealing for people to dive in. People don’t even think of the privacy issues or the crime-stories hanging around these sites and share their personals. However, Beth Givens, the Executive Director of Privacy Rights Clearinghouse is of the view that some information must not be revealed at any cost.

Here is a little detail about what you must not disclose at the Facebook:

· Birth date & Birthplace: You don’t need to reveal the birth date and your birthplace at the Facebook because by doing so you are giving clue to filching your financial life. The identity thieves are on a mission to steal such information. They often track your social security number with the help of date and place of birth.

· Home & Office Addresses. Physical and identity theft prospects increase by revealing your home and office addresses at the social sites. Almost 40 percent users have listed their home address and about 60 percent users do not restrict access to their profile information by using privacy settings. This ratio is too high and can cause a variety of loss to the users.

· Vacation Plans. Posting your vacation plans is more than inviting people to rob you. There are millions of people on Facebook and not everyone is a friend, remember! So be careful while sharing your vacation plans, if necessary, use strict privacy settings.

· Password Hints. Getting online means to answer several private questions for many sites and accounts. Just like while opening an email account you need to answer a secret question. If you put this information on Facebook then you yourself are inviting people to hack or misuse your accounts at different websites as it is very easy to retrieve an account’s information with secret questions.

There are a few things more you don’t need to share on Facebook. For example, your confessionals can cause you a job loss. You may not like your job then there is no need to post about it on your wall. A study revealed that 8% of the companies fired some employee for such behavior while using the social media sites. So be cautious with that. Don’t ever post what do you really think about your boss or school teacher. Limit your use of social networking sites before it limits the world around you!
